Former Lake Country councillor Bill Scarrow speaks to the new council.

Bill Scarrow, who served for 18 years on Lake Country council, had a few words of advice for the new council.

“The strength of a council isn’t necessarily in what you say, but in what you hear — and the strength and fortitude that it takes to adjust your line of thinking because of what you’ve heard is so very important,” Scarrow told the new council during their inaugural meeting.

Scarrow was defeated for two councillor at large positions by newcomers Michael Lewis and Bib Patel.

The new council was sworn in at the inaugural meeting on Nov. 1.

In a short first meeting, council approved the meeting schedule and appointed Mayor Blair Ireland as the Regional District of the Central Okanagan board representative, and Coun. Todd McKenzie as alternate.

The next council meeting is Nov. 15.
